Outdoor agency’s short documentary selected to screen at prestigious Mountainfilm Festival; teaser now available with full release slated for June 1
Outdoor marketing agency MMGY Origin announced today a new documentary project, “Leo & Chester.” Produced in partnership with Ski-Doo, a BRP brand, the short film follows the story of Leo Downey, a rock musician turned first-generation buffalo rancher. With its teaser launching online today, “Leo & Chester” will screen May 29 at Mountainfilm, one of America’s oldest and most prestigious outdoor film festivals.
“Leo & Chester” is helmed by award-winning director Andrea Wing, who also serves as MMGY Origin’s Director of Video + Content.
“I knew there was something special about Leo when we first met, and it was really on a whim that we decided to shoot this film,” said Wing. “Luckily for us, his story had this incredible depth. I think this film is a great example that you need to trust your gut with storytelling.”
Ski-Doo, which offers the most complete model mix of snowmobiles and unlocks exhilarating winter adventures, will help power the film’s full launch on June 1.
“As soon as we heard about this project, we knew it was something we wanted to be part of,” said Jérémi Doyon-Roch, Global Marketing Manager, Snowmobile and Brand Strategic Initiatives at BRP. “We were inspired by Leo’s true story and its relationship with nature, the animals and winter. Just like Ski-Doo, it’s a lifestyle, and we decided to partner with MMGY Origin to help share its story, show the behind the scenes of a wilderness passion and inspire more people to choose outdoor adventures.”
With the majestic beauty of British Columbia as its backdrop, “Leo & Chester” accomplishes deep storytelling in its nine short minutes. Disillusioned with his life of rock and roll, Leo Downey sojourns in the desert of the Sierra Madre mountains and sleeps beneath the stars. Deep in the desert, Downey undergoes a spiritual experience that changes his life forever. Following his intuition, he leaves his life in California behind and becomes a first-generation buffalo rancher. To gain the acceptance of an animal four times stronger than an ox and faster than a horse, he must face his fears and embrace the gifts of the herd.
Advance screenings of the film are available to members of the media. For more information about the Mountainfilm Festival taking place May 25–29 in Telluride, CO, visit mountainfilm.org. To learn more about MMGY Origin, visit originoutside.com.
