Now that 2017 is in full swing, everyone has set (and has broken) their New Year’s resolutions, and we start to look ahead at digital trends in the new year; we thought it was fitting to reference a throwback to a discussion on emerging social trends that MMGY hosted at DMAI last year. I moderated the session focusing on the impact of immersive platforms in Destination Tourism. We talked about how we are now living in a mobile-first world and that time spent with digital – and specifically mobile – has surpassed TV viewing (eMarketer). We also discussed how new ad formats like Facebook’s roll out of canvas and 360 video in 2016 changed how destinations can measure success on social channels.
2016 brought discussion of the power of cross-screen targeting, the importance of storytelling and how immersive platforms can allow destinations to share their brand in a more meaningful way. The momentum of new innovation will continue to bring even more change in how we, as advertisers, will do business in 2017.
